Coffee Morning Raises Cash for Macmillan Cancer Relief


People across Calderdale lifted a cup for a good cause.

Hundreds enjoyed a cuppa to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief in the annual "World's Biggest Coffee Morning".

Staff at Hair and Beauty World, Mytholmroyd "sexed up" their drive-in coffee morning with French maid outfits. Five of the salon's girls were joined by stripper Dan Jackson and raised £1027.

Sadaqit Sabir, estate manager at Hanover House, Pye Nest, Halifax, gave a week's wages to add to the £250 raised at the coffee morning.

At the JJB gym in Halifax members held a coffee morning and a 16-hour treadmill run. One of the members, Ray Saywell, 81, has cancer but still did his 15 minutes.

Home-made produce was on sale at the Pellon Baptist Church, Halfax, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Staff at Rawson Junior and Infant School, Boothtown, Halifax, had a cuppa and a raffle, and members of Central Methodist Church, Brighouse, gave money from their coffee morning and cake sale. Mayor of Calderdale Geraldine Carter opened her parlour for people to join her for a cuppa.

Events were also held at Lawrence Funeral Services, Halifax; Ash Green School Mixenden; Hebden Bridge; Bupa, Elland; HSBC Halifax; YMCA, Halfax; and Platform One.
